Prompt 23. Sunday 23rd September 2018 - The 23rd prompt will be..  Where and What Supplies to buy!

Supplies I’m back!  I mean surprise!!  But this particular blog entry is going to be about Supplies..  What I use and where I get it from..!!  And perhaps even why!!

Full disclaimer 1.  You absolutely do not need to buy anything to practice Magick, Witchcraft, any form of Paganism such as Wicca, Druidry, Shamanism etc.  These are all Earth Based Religions / Practices / Faiths etc meaning that our ancestors wouldn’t have gone out and purchased their tools and supplies; in fact most of them couldn’t afford to!  Supplies were picked and grown from our lands while tools would have been shaped, carved and created from trees, bone, antler, clay etc.   Although granted some would have been traded or purchased.  - I am in no way encouraging you to spend money.  2. I’m from England UK and so I will try and reference international sources but keep that in mind.

I have been asked by a few people on Facebook, Instagram and a few other Social Media haunts as to where I get my supplies from..  What I use, how I got my Altar and how I have accumulated so much stuff…  Do I use it all?  Absolutely not!  But I’m a creature of hoarding, collecting and materialistic things – especially if I can find them very inexpensively, make them myself or support independent businesses.  - Though I am no stranger to chain stores etc either.

Since magick is all around us everywhere and in everything we are not restricted to how we practice nor what we use..  Although that said let's take a look at some of the more common tools and supplies aka the "basics"?!!

First I'll look at more stereotypical witchy items and then Wiccan and then a few other general items you may wish to practice with..

So when we think of witches aside from the typical crooked nose, warts and green skin we also picture the conical hat, besom (or broom as it's more commonly known), a cat or other witches familiar, spell book, cauldron and perhaps a few other noticeables such as a black cloak or cape, potion bottles, spell ingredients such as frogs legs and eye of newt etc.  So let's break down some of these more stereotypical witches items; though while I can't do much for your completion I'm sure there's some interesting makeup or special fx gurus on youtube who will aid you in the tips and tricks of cosmology..  So let's look at the more material things shall we..
Besom/Broom:  The besom as I said a besom is more commonly known as a broom or a witch's broom.  These items are much more symbolic or for metaphysical use than literally functional.  They are very much traditionally made brooms made for sweeping though these brooms are more for sweeping away negative energies and to cleanse a space spiritually /magickally / metaphysically than it is for literally sweeping dirt.  (SPOILERS!) Besoms/brooms are also noted as the witch’s mode of transport however I don't personally know any that actually fly!!   Besoms can also be purchased around Halloween, at specialist stores including Etsy.com and some antique shops or made yourself – I made mine from upcycled Poundland Halloween costume props and a large fallen branch I obtained in the woods.  Besoms are also incorporated into some wedding or handfasting ceremonies and/or ritualistic dance and traditions.
Cat/Familiar:   A cat or other witches familiar I have done a blog covering this so will link it HERE.  Essentially a pet that chooses you and lends its energies to you and your workings among other things.
Cauldron:  While having a cauldron is nice it's also not necessary at all.  Cauldrons were the cooking pots of the day.  If you think of a big pot of stew bubbling over an open fire then that was how food would have been cooked back in the day.  Today our traditions would be the equivalent to a pan on a stove.  Cauldrons / cooking pots and pans would be used to brew tea, potions, ointments, medicines etc..  As well as cooking food or preparing ingredients.  While it's not impossible to find cauldrons you're definitely going to pay a pretty penny especially for a heavy cast iron one.  I myself have quite a few small ceramic, brass and cast iron cauldrons which I believe I purchased them all from ebay.  Again second hand shops / charity shops / thrift stores around Halloween, Antiques places, car boots (or yard sales for our international friends) are just a few places to look.  Equally as mentioned a cauldron is not essential any heatproof cooking pan will suffice and even better if it has a lid.  I even know some people who use oil burners or fondue sets and again I have both.
Witches Hat:  The conical hat is a pointed hat worn in many styles, fabrics and traditions  throughout the ages however one belief of the witch is that it was believed that energies would manifest almost like a lighting conductor and be attracted and conducted as they hit the point of the hat and then be magnified as they’re protruded down the cone shape to the brim which then expels down into the witch surrounding her in an invisible cylinder of energies.  Conical hats are not terribly difficult to make even out of paper although typically they're made of stiff fabric.  They're also not terribly expensive to buy especially around Halloween where a cheap one could be purchased for use or even altered to adorn other elements and be customised to his or her tastes (as said Witches can be male or female).  I actually stole mine from my kid Sisters Halloween costume some 4 years or so ago since she was throwing it out.  I believe originally it was purchased from Wilkos for a few pounds or even Poundland.
Cloak/Cape/Robes:   A cloak or cape can easily be made or purchased at places such as eBay which is where I got mine.  This is much more ceremonial or symbolic.  Part of the attire almost like a uniform however not essential nor important.  The colour(s) may also be symbolic or carry values.  I did a blog on some colour correspondences HERE.  Alternatively some practices are done Skyclad (naked).
Bottles/Jars/Vials/Containers:   Potion bottles themselves are easy to come by depending on type, size, colour etc Pound shops, wilkos, ikea carry them but see second hand / charity shops / thrift stores.  Also check out crafting sections of chain stores, craft shops or repurpose other bottles or food containers, again ebay, etsy, aliexpress etc and then fill the empty bottles / veils etc with your desired supplies, potions, poisons, tinctures, specimens, oils etc..
Spellbooks:   Spellbooks can be purchased from specialist shops, book shops, ebay, amazon etc or even passed down.  The majority of my books, including my spell books, came from ebay.co.uk as I'm no stranger to second hand goods especially when you apply the three C's (cleanse, consecrate and charge). Book of Shadows or Grimoires are typically made yourself or handed down.
Spell Ingredients:   Spell ingredients such as herbs, spices, resins, bark etc can be purchased from specialist shops, food/grocery shops/stores, spice shops, herbalist shops etc etc they can also be home grown, traded, harvested from the wild etc  -  I also want to point out that back in days of old when spells used 'wing of bat' and 'tongue if dog', 'eye of newt' etc these were nicknames given to herbs a lot of these herbs we still use today check out this website for some of those more obscure old world names HERE.

In Wicca on a Wiccan altar you have a god and goddess side.  Typically the altar will be also split into element representative quarters.  There are a few set ways of laying out an altar and the items which should be upon it for use in various workings, rituals, spells, etc..  However the silver rule of do what feels right to you strongly applies here.
Altar:   An altar can be made in any space.  Traditionally this would be wooden like a wood table - this is an earth based connection.  However some of use, like myself, get a little more creative with our secret shoebox altars or our grand room dedicated spaces, our inconspicuous shelves etc..  I myself have a glass display cabinet for the simple reason my cats (or my cat and my familiar) like to get into everything!!  Altars can be created and altered from many mundane items; purchased or sourced for free preloved / second hand or new from places like Ikea, Argos and other furniture sellers.  Feel free to get inspiration here: http://fuckyeahaltars.tumblr.com/

Altar Cloth:  Said altar would usually be covered with an altar cloth (but not always) - this is both for protection and also the colour of the cloth or any pattern can be symbolic to the season, dedication, user, path etc.  I have a piece of black velvet which works nicely as simple and Gothy looking.  Other ideas are off cuts of fabric, scarves, tapestries, shawls, blankets, towels, prayer mats, table mats, ceramic tile, cushion covers, chopping board etc..

Athame:   An athame (athame is pronounced as 'a thor may') it is a ritualistic or ceremonial knife. This knife is not for cutting physical objects.  Traditionally black handled double edged blade that doesn't have to be metal if can be carved wood, bone, antler or stone even plastic if you so wish. It is used to direct energy, cast/recalling circles and cut metaphysical or energy ties.  This is dominantly a male/masculine object.  Personally my athame isn't black handled its pink handled, double edged letter opener I got on ebay.

Bell:   Bells are used for many a purpose from clearing negative or bad energies, dismissing of spirits or elementals, cleansing, as a signifier to starting/ending working/spell/prayer/ritual etc or as a representation of the element air.  A bell is a feminine object. I personally don't have a bell.  I do however have some thumb symbols, a singing bowl and a few other high frequency sounding items.  None of which are on my altar top.

Besom/Broom: I've already covered ^.
Boline:  Another kind of knife is a boline this is a curved blade almost like a small scythe.  They're typically very sharp and are used for cutting herbs or engraving candles.  I got a carpet cutting tool on ebay with a curved blade and wooden handle.
Candles:  I have a fair few blogs about candles including types of candle and candle colours.  Typically any white candle can be used in place of a colour.  Candles can be a shape or type to represent the working/ritual/spell etc or be engraved.  They can be anointed with oils or herbs.  I typically get my chime/spell/wish (birthday)/Hanukkah candles from ebay, tea light candles from Wilkos and any time I see a great deal on candles I get them plus I also make them myself such as my skull candles, votive and other specialist candles.  In Wicca candles are used to represent the god (usually gold, red or black) and the goddess (usually silver, green or white).  They can also be used to represent the elements or mark the quarters, spirit, as a working candle, fire etc.  Fire is a male item.
Chalice/Cup:   A Chalice or Cup has multi functional properties firstly it is a feminine object as its represented as the womb.  It is a ceremonial object in which wine or water (or other liquids) can be poured and shared with the divine, spirit, deceased etc as an offering.  It can be as simple as a cup or glass or as complicated as a forged goblet or chalice.
Cauldron:  I've already covered ^.
Dishes:   Dishes as I mentioned before about various dishes and such forth some are for specific tasks such as a libation dish which is typically a small bowl, dish or cup/chalice that is used to place offerings in (see my blog post on offerings HERE).
Divine / God and Goddess representation:   You may wish to get some figures, sculptures, pictures or some other representation. You may also want to do this with ancestors, spirits, demons, angels, symbolism of people etc. I myself have a wooden male and female sculpture I use to represent male and female. Again purchased from ebay. I also have some crow figures as one of my goddesses is The Morrigan.  - The Divine lives in all things!
Feathers:   Feathers are a representation of air and also of angels.  Feathers can be obtained from parks/woods or craft stores.  Be aware that some countries such as America it is illegal to own animal parts including bird feathers.
Mortar and Pestle:  A Mortar and Pestle set is used for grinding ingredients these can be obtained in the as mentioned shops.
Pentacle or Pentagram Altar Tile:   A Pentacle or Pentagram this is another symbol which I've covered in many blogs so click HERE for more information.  However in Wicca typically a Pentacle/Pentagram would be used as the centre of the altar.  I myself have a white wall tile with a silver and black Pentacle drinks coaster on top.  The tile I had laying around but the coaster was from ebay..
Salt/Salt Water:   Salt / Salt Water is pretty self explanatory.  There's various salts from sea salt to Himalayan pink rock salt and epsom salt.  Salt is pretty much used as purification among other things.  It can be used as a representation of water.
Spellbooks:   I've already covered ^.

Sword/Dagger:   Some people also like to have swords or daggers as part of their arsenal of tools though this lends itself more towards weapons.  - I personally haven't looked into this however.

Stones/Crystals:   Stones or crystals can be used for many of their metaphysical or magickal properties.

Wand:   A wand can be used instead of an athame.  Typically this will be a wooden stick.  Tree associations and properties are usually used here.  Alternatively crystal wands (and their properties), clay or even your index finger or dominant hand will suffice.  I made my wand for more information on this go HERE.
Working book:   Some people like to have a separate notebook for their planning which they copy finalised and successful recipes etc into their Book of Shadows / Grimoires later.
Working knife:  Working knife unlike the athame this is used to cut, carve, chop, draw, engrave etc it's a multi tool knife.  Traditionally this knife would be white handled.  I myself have a penknife as my working knife which I believe I got from an army stall on a market.

I hope that gives you some ideas of things you'd like to obtain.  Most ritualistic tools while dedicated to one's craft would still be made from mundane items; as said a lot of things traditionally would have been made from found objects gathered from nature including a lot of clay sculpted, wood carved or woven creations etc.   Wands would have been carved from sticks and knives from sticks, branches, bone, antler etc.  Even mortar and pestle would have been a rock and a bigger rock or stone surface.  Incense would have been made from scratch ingredients (plants, resins, bark etc).   A lot of herbs, resins, bark etc would have been picked fresh and dried then stored for use.  Today we're lucky in that we can pop to most grocery stores to find basic herbs; pre-dried and bottled ready for our use.  Specialist shops inc ebay and etsy sellers may carry more obscure items. - I also recommend keeping your magickal and cooking supplies separate just encase!!
Other things you might like to buy are more personal to the user such as jewellery pieces especially those which are amulets, talismans, trinkets etc (I did a blog on these and what's the difference between them HERE).  Of course you can make your own or purchase them.  Mine are a mixture of what I made myself and inexpensive AliExpress jewellery.  This then falls into our curio items (curiosities); so unusual and obscure items like skulls, taxidermy, legs, wings etc..  Which is usually more for decor purposes than functional in modern day practices.  You may also want to buy, alter or make trinket boxes, dishes, drawstring bags, silk cloths etc..  Or other items such as dreamcatchers, evil eyes, wards, signs, wall hangings, windchimes, suncatchers etc
And of course not forgetting all the different kinds of divination tools..  I've written about Divination and some Divination Tools such as Tarot Cards, Dowsing Pendulums and Scrying Mirrors HERE.  I'd like to point out how you can draw or print your own tarot cards / oracle cards / fortune cards / sigil cards / angel cards / iChing cards / rune cards etc etc..  Likewise you can sculpt with clay or engrave wood, stone, bone, antler etc to make your own rune set be it Elder Futhark Runes, Witches Runes or some other Runic set. You can very easily make a Dowsing Pendulum, Crystal Grid, etc, you can make your own Spirit Dice (or do as I did and repurpose a boggle set!) etc.  Again you can scry into a bowl of water, paint the back of picture glass to make your own black mirror or use a number of other items.  You can make your own ouija board.  Tasseography / tea leaf reading can be done in almost any cup.  You're not limited to spending a fortune on premade divination tools and items..
You may also want to purchase or make notebooks, diaries or journals for recording experiences such as spells, rituals, dreams, communications etc.

Next weeks blog is going to be about sourcing supplies / tools / materials for free / very cheap as a "Practice for the budget/broke practitioner!" plus it will include some completely free practices which really work and cost nothing to do!!

WW. Lighting Charcoal Disc Tips!

I shared this on my Instagram @ www.instagram.com/missimoinsane
but I thought I would also share this here...

Few Tools & Tips For Lighting Charcoal Discs.

Tips for using charcoal discs. The ones I use are Sheesha hooka charcoal discs. I hold them with tweezers (mine are bent note), over a flameproof / fire resistant bowl like my cauldron, a dish, this silver leaf.. And above / placed upon salt, sand or a lot of ash (or in my case a mixture). I use regular lighters to light my discs and a pretty herb spoon (search AliExpress for tea spoons these ones are now less than 50p inc shipping!) used to place herbs on the disc once light. More tips would be you don't want hair or clothing anywhere near nor do you want to stand directly above as smoke can go in your eyes (even when you wear glasses) or be inhaled and that's not good.. Hope this helped!

REMEMBER ALWAYS PRACTICE 🔥 FIRE 🔥SAFETY!

Spoon - AliExpress years ago when they were £2-3 lol.
Lighter - pack of 5 for £1 from Poundland.
Tweezers - Set of 5 craft tweezers £1 from Poundland. (or a bit more on ebay)
Leaf bowl/dish - I found in charity shop for 50p YEARS ago and bought it as an offering dish originally.
Charcoal discs - I get on ebay in bulk.

September Workings Under A New Moon.

20th New Moon Wishes
21st Mabon Blessings
22nd Autumn Greetings

Thought I would share some pictures from the workings I did under the new moon including my homemade Autumn greeting, blessing and wishes incense.  - Which I burned on a charcoal disc (on sand) in my firepit skull.  - Thanks to the wonderful Michelle for hosting an in The Shadows Dark Goddess Event I joined in with.  Feeling a definite seasonal and moon change.

I also did some truth working, thank you Derrie for your assistance and help with both your absolute amazing intuitive card reading and also your help and advice with this working resource as well as the internet..  From it I handmade this white silk pouch with bells on.  I also purchased this Lapis Lazuli (truth stone) pendant which I created the bezel and fashioned this Truth Pendulum hoping the tree of life will provide grounding.  - For this working I also purchased some command and control oil.

I also wanted to  give you 3 budget witchy tips for again making none magickal items a part of your practice.

1. Paper.

Years ago, back when I smoked, I found myself in need of paper to write down something to burn.  Rooting through the small bag I had with me I found no tissue, receipts, bus tickets or shopping lists!  No!  But..  I did have some cigarette rolling papers..  easy to write on with most pens and designed to burn.  From that day forth I tend to use these when I want to write something to burn.

2.  Small Candle Holders.

A few months ago I wrote a blog about using birthday candles or wish candles as I call them.  A long trial and error process and I found perfect candle holders.  Miniature brass candle holders tend to work perfectly.   - I have a collection of miniature candle sticks in brass..  I got mine on ebay but I am positive antique places, second hand shops, carboot/yard sale/garage sale etc..  Not too hard to find not too extensive either.  Plus if the candle is too small I wrap it in (tin/aluminium) foil..  Alternative you can stick it in container of soil/sand/ash/salt optional to use the lil plastic things or stick the candles straight in.  (Also lil glass bottles weighted with sand (or spell contents) make for good spell candle holders).

3. Personalised Lighter.

Personalising a lighter isn't hugely expensive - a new age Wiccan phrase I use to use a lot  (which is possibly overused) "Love and Light" basically a blessings or intention to say this act / working / spell / sentiment / wish / ritual / prayer etc has been/is done with pure good intention.  'Light' is often pictured as a pure bright light of protection sometimes envisioned as a flame or a candle flame may be used as a physical symbol or meditation tool etc.  So by blessings this lighter which I only use for magical working / use it has that intention value of Love and Light.

I hope this has been helpful / inspirational and given you some food for thought.

MM / WW. DIY Wand, Prayer Beads & Witches Ladder.

While I am a firm believer in not NEEDING tools in order to be able to achieve your desires...  They sure are pretty and they can definitely aid you in your workings to say the least!!  That said tools can come to us in different ways for example we could go out and buy the most expensive item someone else made/found which they claim is X and we buy it and we consecrate it, bless it, pour our intent into it, name it and all round make it our own.  Perfect?  Alternatively we repurpose from our kitchens, are gifted, we buy the things that look like and will make do, make our own, find things in nature (my favourite) and/or we repurpose other things (something else I love) with a craft element and more.  All for the purpose of filling a position on our altar, in our arsenal, that blank space that someone else has one so we of course we abide by the same notion that we want/need one as well.  But as said, we don’t really need these tools..  We are the main tool.

That said I'd like to talk about 3 things I made..

Wand

The wand is seen as many things it is seen as a smaller more portable besom (broom), it is seen as male representative such as God, sun, yang.  Its place is in the south or god side (right) and lends itself to the powers of magick, will and transformation.  They also make for excellent divination tools as well as casting tools for example it can be used to cast a circle in place of an athame (a-thaw-may).  It can be made of natural material such as wood, crystal, stone but most traditionally and commonly its wood since wood comes from trees which each have their own properties which infuse additional properties to the particular wand made.

So that’s some basics about the wand.  But do we really need it?  No!!  And in fact for my first 10 years of study/practice I used my right hand (dominant hand) index finger – which if I’m being super honest I still do most often than not or I use my whole hand, as that’s what feels right to me.  But do I have a wand now?  Yes!  Did I buy it?  No!  Did I find and alter it?  Yes, actually!!

How?  I was drawn to the concept of wands a few years back, I had been looking at various wooden wands – as a lover of willow trees and cherry trees and even oak and birch trees and perhaps even apple and.. oh the choices..  None of them really coincided with what I wanted and I toiled over this not even knowing if I would use this overly priced stick or indeed where I would get one in nature (as a disabled person, who doesn’t get out much!)  So I started looking into crystal wands...  The only wands that seemed right was pure clear quartz and between the price and that they seemed overly common and if there’s one thing I can say for myself is I like things that are different, quirky, dark / gothic and unique.  Hmm.  I had considered making a wand out of clay – a natural earth based product that would combine both my Zodiac Fire sign with my Chinese Earth elemental Earth and let’s be honest Air and Water get a look in too so this could be a successful DIY alternative!!

As I was still in battle with myself over this decision...  I was invited out to meet a lovely lady off of the internet who is also spiritual, lives reasonably close and we took and unexpected beach trip just before Imbolc a few years back.  While on said beach trip I came across the most amazing piece of driftwood.  It caught my eye while we were looking for seaglass as it looked like a long twisted bony witches finger sticking up out the sand and would you believe it’s pointing straight at me!!  If you believe in signs, I do, then this is it... RIGHT?  So I pulled the stick out the sand which instantly felt so right.  All these ideas came flooding to mind on how I could decorate it!  Fast forward to a few days later I was back troubled in two minds; while it seemed a perfect shaped piece of driftwood that had been stripped and polished by the purifying salty sea, smashed against the pebbled earthy beach, baked in the hot fiery sun and aided by air to dry out beautifully I still didn’t know what tree it came from?  What if it wasn’t compatible?  What if it had ugly properties I didn’t like?  What if…   I decided to go ahead and work on it anyway for what harm could it do?  At worst I threw it away or I sold it on to someone who would love it and at best I’d adopt it for my own (which I obviously did).

As it was already perfectly stripped and dried; I gave it a bit of a soap and water wash, again let it dry out before rubbing melted bees wax into it – why?  I have no idea; it just felt like the right thing to do at the time!  I got some pink leather thong cord (from my craft supply stash) and hot glued it around the non-finger end.  I then melted candle wax over the top of this to seal it – again no idea why.  Approximately half way down was a little knot hole so I grabbed a piece of quartz crystal bead from my jewellery making supplies, I outlined the hole with a silver sharpie and I hot glued the crystal in place.  I loved it.  Just above the handle is the perfect notch for my finger to rest making the wand a perfect extension of my index finger or my thumb if I desired.  I felt like I wanted to weigh the handle down a little so got an eye screw from my junk drawer and twisted it into the end, I then again raided my craft supplies and my witchy supplies and attached 3 real magpie feathers (which were very significant in my life at that time), some symbolic charms, a chakra keyring I had made myself just days before and a few other oddity beads and such.  And thus it came to be, I have a wand!!

Granted to this day I still don’t know what tree it came from, but in my head all that is purified by the salty sea waters.  Making the properties of this driftwood...  of which any Sea Witch worth her salt can tell you that Driftwood properties are those infused with purifying abilities from salt of the sea making it a pure tool; fantastic for burning in fire magic, spells, protective jewellery, that it carries all the elements perfect for purity works such as protection, purification, blessing, casting circles and all those good energy workings.  And this, this sits right with me and my practices.  Driftwood!

My Pagan Prayer Beads.

Far more commonly associated with religions such as Christianity and the Catholic Church or Buddhist Shaolin Monks Prayer Beads have different but similar symbolic meaning throughout various faiths.  Some use them to count a mantra, others use them as a symbol of the holy trinity and god, and others use them to represent their sins, journeys or many other reasons.  Even inside each religion there are different types of Prayer Beads which not only have different uses but are also made of different materials, different numbers of beads, different sized beads, charms or not and the list goes on.  I shall not get into Prayer Beads here today as that is a whole library section of information.  But I thought I’d add the concept of why I made mine!!

So first off I liked the Christian image of the Rosary Prayer Beads draped over their hands, always been quite a strong spiritual (non religious binding) symbol.  Even before my spiritual and Paganism faiths I always liked the concept of prayer which for me is putting out good intentions be there someone or some being there to receive my words or not.

Second I like the counting mantra concept since when I try to meditate my mind often wandered away far from that task at hand, daydreaming.  So it helped me stay grounded and focused regardless of if I counted the beads or just passed them through my fingers – believe it or not there’s also a right and wrong way to do this as well but I just do what feels right to me.  (There’s a pattern forming here!)

Third and final, I liked the concept of what I could create using elements and corresponding stones which each of them carry their own properties and then using charms as symbolism to create my own personal Pagan / Wiccan Prayer Beads...  I am not saying this is what Pagan / Wiccan Prayer Beads are; just what mine are/mean to me.

I started with the concept, and some research.  Most beads are strung in sets of 9 and have points which have larger beads, charms or some kind of marker to give a signal that the next set of beads are coming up.  These also tend to form number patterns.  I decided since at that time I was researching and doing a lot of elemental working that this would be a good use of that knowledge and another way to incorporate this into my practice.  I decided to go for a Rosary inspired look, incorporating the 5 pentagram points the four elements Earth, Air, Fire, Water and the fifth point being Spirit or also known as the fifth element Akasha. From this a tail of grounding and all of this accompanied my symbolic charms.

   My design:
·       Air - Pegasus Charm - Air Stones: Amethyst
·       Earth – Fairy Charm - Earth Stones: Malachite
·       Fire – Dragon Charm - Fire Stones: Volcanic Black Salt
·       Water – Mermaid Charm - Water Stones: Sodalite
·       Spirit - clear quartz
·       Spirit & Grounding - chain pentacle, tree, sun/moon - Black Tourmaline in 3x 3s

Amethyst
Amethyst - Healing on all levels - body, mind, and spirit. Raises vibrational frequency and protects against negative energies.

Malachite
Malachite - Love, Money, Protection, Protection form Negativity, Transformation, Heart Chakra, Prosperity, Abundance, Imagination, Intuition, and Creativity.

Sodalite
Sodalite - Healing, meditation, wisdom, calm, grounding, stress reducer, strong metaphysical properties, creative abilities and it aids teachers, writers and students to understand the deeper philosophical principles. Psychic abilities, developing intuition. aid communication. Helps understanding of astrology and the tarot. Power & Luck.

Lava Stone
Lava Stone - Strength, Courage, Calming, Grounding, Healing, Rebirth, Stabilising, Root Chakra, Energy. Born in fiery brimstone that bubbles to the Earth’s surface (and eventually cools), lava stone comes from the core of the earth. Lava is a rock formed from magma erupted from a volcano. Lava rock is a grounding stone and can help you connect with nature. Since the stone comes from raw energy, Lava Stone is considered to be a stone of rebirth and shedding unneeded layers of emotional attachment.

Quartz Clear
Quartz Crystal (Rock Quartz) - Attracts, amplifies, and sends energy. Easy and safe. Useful for all kinds of healing.

Tourmaline Black
Black Tourmaline - Protection, Powerful protection against negative energy of all kinds, strong spiritual grounding stone. Positive attitudes, good luck and happiness, regardless of the circumstances that you find yourself in. Healer & creates a positive attitude and mind-set. Very grounding.

I could go on and discuss the symbolism of each of the charms, but trying to justify that dragons are not fire and apparently are actually water creatures blows my mind so perhaps we shall leave that for another day.

I like to use them in meditation, they also help me feel grounded and due to the size I made them they also work as an oversized necklace or a multi-wrap braclet if I feel I need to wear and harness those energies while I work etc.

Witches’ Ladder:

While technically it’s not a tool per say it is rather a fantastic item a witch should have in her home.  The concept is putting your intent/goals/wishes/dreams/request into the braid to bring forth a particular thing or keep away or well there really are a number of uses for them!!

They're normally made of 3 pieces of material (wool, leather, string, ribbon, cord...) can all be the same material but usually in different colours. - Traditionally black, white and red but that's optional colours.  Colours can be chosen by meaning, birth colours, colours you’re drawn to, colours that represent your intent, colour correspondences, seasonal or just your fancy!! Traditionally Witches’ Ladders are a total of 13" long once completed but that can also vary.  They can include a mixture of feathers and/or beads and/or charms and/or other trinket type items and/or other items such as animal bone, feathers, pieces of the intended such as their hair. You can use oils on the knots or braids as well.  It really is an open concept to be almost anything you desire and as shown there is really a lot you can do with them…  Made for you or for someone else!

Made with intent, ritual, spell, prayer... can be made for many uses like protection, to bring a wish, to enchant, to bring luck, to bind love, lots of reasons. It's said once the intent is for-filled you burn/bury your Witches’ Ladder. Or if it's not something specific like just a general protection or to keep from negative energy away etc. you can keep it or hang it above your alter (I made a protection and guidance one which hangs above my altar and incorporates 3 of my favourite colours and 9 charms I associate with paganism, witchcraft, magick, fantasy and well me.

Wikipedia - A witch's ladder (also known as rope and feathers, witches' ladder, Witches’ Ladder, or witch ladder) is a fetish, in folk magic or witchcraft that is made from knotted cord or hair, that normally constitutes a spell. Charms are knotted or braided with specific magical intention into the cords.

I used 3 types/colours of fibre yarn: a white fibre yarn, black fibre yarn and pink fibre yarn and braided them together and knotted in 9 "witchy" charms. Charms are moon (Goddess), bat, mermaid, triquetra/holy-trinity, pentacle (Elements), tree of life, fairy, witches hat and sun (God) - these are all charms I had (I make jewellery) but that spoke to me and represents something personal to me in my life, my journey.
