Prompt 10. Sunday 27th January 2018 - The 10th prompt will be...  Colours & Candles.

Todays blog is going to be another open to your interpretation; while just like herbs and stones etc (as mentioned in last weeks blog post) if you look at enough resources you'll learn specific colours (and/or candles) have specific meanings and uses but again I invite you to make your own mind up what a colour (and/or candle) does for you in your interpretation and use.  It's down to your intuition (which next week we will be looking at: Blog prompt 11 - Intuitive, Empath & Clair's - "What are they?".)

Colours.

Colours are used everywhere and often have varying meanings and uses depending upon the different cultures, professions, opinions, items and such can all have different, same or similar meanings.  Of course each of these colours you will have your own personal taste for, I'm going to use 3 examples of Purple, Orange and Red.  My personal taste favorite colours are Magenta Pink, Black, Monochrome type themes but I didn't want to be bias in these examples, I also hate the colour yellow.  But I'm sure everyone has a favorite and least favorite colour which will also affect your decisions when choosing colour or reading colour meanings.  The Examples.

Purple:
In Feng Shui it's often said that purple is said to bring good luck for wealth and prosperity. It has a feeling of royalty, wealth, and high spirituality.  Purple also has connections to rich, noble, deep, quiet and wise meanings. It's advised to avoid purple if wanting to feel more extroverted or connected to the Earth.
Some say that in Home Decor painting a room dark purple is rich, dramatic and sophisticated. It is associated with luxury and creativity.  While light purple like a lavender is associated with calm and relaxation.
Some say that purple candles represent the day Saturday, that violet candles are good for Allergies and Colds while more of an Indigo purple is good for Depression in healing candles.  Purple candles are often used in workings for Spiritual awareness, divination, tranquility and wisdom.  Where as Lavender candles are used for Intuition, Paranormal, Healing, Calming and Peace.
Orange:
In Feng Shui it's often said that Orange is considered a “social” color, one that is happy, vibrant, and eye-catching.  It's meanings lend itself to being thought of as creative, exuberant, lively, fun-loving, extroverted.  It's advised to avoid orange when creating a space of quiet and reflection.
Some say that in Home Decor painting a room Orange evokes excitement and enthusiasm, energy, positivity, creativity and is an energetic color.  - In ancient cultures, orange was believed to heal the lungs and increase energy levels and rooms were painted this colour to aid healing.
Some say that orange candles represent the day Sunday but it is more commonly associated with Gold or Yellow candles.  Orange is another colour used in healing candles when dealing with Depression.  In workings orange candles are typically used for energy, joy, education, strength attraction, stimulation and increased cognitive behaviour.
Red:
In Feng Shui it's often said that Red represents the element of fire because of the colours intensity.  It is also a colour considered to be lucky, creates energy and can also mean hot, bold, daring and high voltage.  It is best advised to avoid red in cases of anxiety, insomnia, or over-activity.
Some say that in Home Decor red raises a room’s energy level it is an intense colour witch adrenaline increase great for excitement, drawing people together and stimulates conversation, it can create hunger and food association and positive bold mindsets.
Some say that red candles represent the day Tuesday.  Red isn't really associated with healing purposes but it does lend itself to positivity.  In workings red or deep red candles are used for passion, energy, love, lust, relationships, sex, vitality and courage.

You may find you agree with some, or all, of these given definitions but as said reading through resource materials - be it books, the internet etc you'll come to see a common and repetitive theme.  That said this blog is looking at a witchy perspective so let's talk more about colour correspondences from that point of view.

Now it is in my opinion that as previously mentioned you'll interpret the objects colour based on your opinion but not all items colour values are the same, this is something I wrote in my working book based on a lot of research and I tend to work from however there are a few I would use for different purposes (but that's not for here!)

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS TAKEN FROM MY PERSONAL WORKBOOK BASED ON MY PERSONAL RESEARCH IT IS NOT NECESSARILY RIGHT, WRONG, CORRECT, HOW EVERYONE WORKS ETC BUT I'M SHARING THIS WITH YOU AS A KICK STARTER GUIDE TO YOUR FURTHER RESEARCH - YOU'RE WELCOME!

Black - Protection, Warning, Repelling of negative energy, Death (as in a closed chapter, end of something), Increased mystical wisdom, A sign that you are undergoing a spiritual initiation & growth, Magic, Spiritual wisdom, Being watched over by Angel or Spiritual Guardian or Ancestor.  - When shiny or iridescent, it can represent high mystical insight standing strong & setting strong boundaries, while remaining aware.

     Feather Colour Combinations:

Black and white mixed feathers can represent protection, or the sense of union.

Black mixed with purple represents a very deep spirituality. - I would take it as a deeply mystical sign.

Black, white, and blue mixed feathers denote change on the horizon.

Brown and black striped pattern (like a pheasant/s feather) - balance between the physical and the spiritual.

Brown and white - happiness, and you will go under the radar from psychic or other  harm.

Feathers with red and green in them or together would denote that you are being assisted financially. I would take it as a very lucky sign.

Grey and white symbolise hope.

Skull Candle Colours

Black - Hex or Negativity
Red - Love, Strength, Passion etc
Green - Money or Wealth etc
White - Pure, Health, Any Colour etc

I am truly hoping that gave you SOME insight into colours, believe me there's so much more out there as you can also look at coloured stones and their meanings and other synopses of words and how multiple workings may require multiple coloured candles or mixed coloured candles.  And then there's other aspects of the magickal realms such as we haven't even covered colour correspondences for Astrological Star Signs (hopefully if you did the Zodiac blog prompt then you will know the zodiac colour correspondences!) or the Fae (Fairies and such) colour correspondences, or other mystical, mythical, legendary beings such as Unicorns, Mermaids, Gnomes, Dragons etc..  That being said I wanted to touch on the main colour and candle correspondences here which as you can see there's a lot of repetition there and one thing I like is when multiple sources draw the same conclusion ie colour meaning for the same colour to me that helps me feel like I am on track when choosing a colour to work with.  Granted sometimes you have to go with intuition for example when a spell calls for a yellow candle to represent self love I'd probably be opting to reach for a pink candle as I feel that would work better but each to their own.

Candles.

So that's some basics on colour and while I'm here I also wanted to touch on Candles.  Candles come in all shapes and sizes.  Forget colours for a while and let's just focus on the candle.  Now most common I guess would be Tea Lights, Votives, Pillar Candles, Candlesticks, Taper Candles and Birthday candles (or as I like to call them Wish Candles).  That's not to say there's no other candles like Chime, Spell, Dinner, Floating, Even various shaped candles.  But what I want to note here is that while a spell might call for seven 8-10 taper candles in yellow, light blue and green this is not always something that's easy to find, or afford.  (Especially if you have this big orange book Wicca A Year And A Day - which btw I wrote out a full shopping list of all the requirements for the full year!!  You can find it here! I know here in the UK I begrudge paying candle prices and most candles are impossible to find.  So I wrote a blog about substituting those candles for wish candles and I think the readers of this prompt would benefit looking back at that here: Wish Candles - Budget Friendly Alternative! Or of course you could always make your own.  I have three of four different skull moulds for making skull candles, I also have various others like a cat, flowers, hearts.. various silicone fondant and soap molds work great.

Activity..

  • On a scrap piece of paper write down the following colours "Gold, Silver, Black, White, Brown, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Pink" and then next to each word write 5 words that you associate with that colour.  It can be what you read here or your own associations if they differ.
  • Now write those colours down again and ask a friend or family member to do the above task and see what they feel about those colours!!  Repeat as many times as you like it's a fun exercise.
  • Research more into colour associations from different cultures, practices, professions etc.

Book Activity..

  • (Optional) Copy down any information from above you think you will find useful.  I obviously find all this useful but in some cases a bit long winded and repetitive.  I'm going to copy down the basics of candle colour, bag colour and feather colour for now into my BoS, although this information is all in my working book.  - You could print it out if it's easier and stick it in, perhaps use a word document and add clipart to pretty it up (ie. Candle, Feather, Bag) you could also draw images into your book or use stickers.

Interact with me Activity..

  • Feel free to add other colour correspondences you think other people might be interested in.  Or if you have other unusual connections to colours (like if you're colour blind) it would be interesting to hear from you!!

*WW / MM. Cascarilla Powder - All about it..

CASCARILLA
(Pronounced: kas-kah-ree-ya)  It is so useful in protection, purification and cleansing rites. Cascarilla also repels negative energy and the vibration of negative energies. - look at it as an essential multi-purpose weapon for your magickal arsenal.
Food for thought: Vegans might have issues with using this due to animal by-product issues. Note also raw egg safety handling and hazards especially for pregnant women and regarding possible fatal food poisoning.

What is Cascarilla?

Eggshell powder; clean dry eggshells crushed and finely ground with the back of a spoon or with a mortar and pestle until it feels as soft as fine baby powder.  Not to be confused with the West Indian shrub, Croton eluteria aka Cascarilla or Cascarilla bark, of the spurge family, the bitter, aromatic bark often used as a tonic!
Cascarilla Powder’s origin is often mistaken as people think it comes from Hoodoo tradition!!  It actually comes from ATRs (African Traditional Religion) like Santería.  – Hoodoo practitioners work with actual talcum powder and chalk.  That’s not to say you can’t use Cascarilla in Hoodoo practice it’s just not the powders origin.
That said the main and usually the only ingredient is powdered eggshell.  It is an amazing powder with outstanding performance when it comes to protection, purification and cleansing - Cascarilla also repels negative energy and the vibration of negative energies..   Cascarilla can be found in two main forms; powder or chalk. It can, as mentioned, be made easily by crushing egg shells into the desired form (see ‘recipe how to’ further on in this document).

Alternatively it can be purchased at most Botanica or store that caters to New Age and Magick ritual.  Most commonly found packed into what most people associate as a “ketchup cup”.  When removed from the cup, it maintains its form and can be used as one would use a soft piece of chalk.  Or, if mixed with water, you will find that the soft-chalk dissolves easily.
You can use either or both powder and chalk forms interchangeably in a variety of ways for a variation of workings throughout your practices.

Different uses:

1. Guards against and repels evil, malicious magick, harm, unwelcome beings.
2. In both chalk form and powder add to a bath or bath bomb to create a purification, cleansing, protection bath or to aid in removal of negativity and negative vibrations.
3. In chalk form it can be used to draw sigils, symbols or other markings.
4. In chalk form it can be used to draw a protection circle for magickal ritual or even sprinkled in a circle as powder form.
5. Dusting or drawing a cross on your forehead can protect you from psychic attacks such as from energy vampires if you are a form of medium such as empath, clairvoyant, clairsentient etc..
6. Reports of it being a great aid for meditation, astral projection, performing visualizations and/or other divinations. The powder can be used to dust yourself or the chalk to draw upon your relative body zones.
7. Cascarilla also keeps away non-corporeal beings (spirits, ghosts, demons, etc).  If you feel like your home may be haunted, this would be a good repellent (after a thorough house cleansing!!).  Be warned, if you have spirits around that you like talking to, you may find it more difficult to communicate with them!  Cascarilla does not discriminate between good and evil–it just provides a barrier between the physical and spiritual world.
8. House protection: use as a piece of chalk.  Going around the house clockwise, etch the sign of the cross on either side of the door, above the door and on the threshold.  When doing the windows–do above, below, and both sides of the window.  Do this with all doors and all windows of the home.
9.House protection (perimeter of home).
Note. There are several other uses for Cascarilla, but these are a few of the main uses.

How to make Cascarilla?

{Anyway you do your magickal makings such as casting circle, invoking spiritual / divine aids, blessings, infusing your energy and intent etc.. before, during and after is down to how you work/practice. YouTuber ‘HighPriestess Kathie’ goes into a lil detail here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBKfx93wcyE }
You will need at least 6 eggs and if possible remove the membrane (thin skin like layer often pink on the inside of the shell) here’s an awesome demonstration video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3AGeYFYtcQ by YouTuber ‘Idaline Carthaysius’ on how she does it.
- White Cascarilla - Gather egg shells, wash and lay flat to dry. Grind said eggs in to a fine powder.
- Black Cascarilla – Simply add charcoal to the above method.
Brown Cascarilla - Gather egg shells, wash and lay flat to dry.  Then toast them in the oven on low temperature until they turn brown (be careful when you handle them they are going to be hot) wait till cold and grind said eggs in to a fine powder.
Note. Once the powder is made you may want to leave it out to fully dry out if possible before sealing it in a jar.
- Cascarilla chalk – Take the previously mentioned eggshells powder and mix together 1tsp of flour and 1tsp of very hot water (some people use holy, blessed or other magickal property water or oils) add 1tbsp of the ground egg shell powder and mix it together until it is a thick paste – some people add additional protection herbs but this is not original Cascarilla.  Form in ‘ketchup cups’, balls, ice cube trays, cake cases, trays, moulds.. Then leave to set.
- Cascarilla powder from chalk – use the previous chalk method then crush to have those extra property boosts.

* WW: Zener Cards - About and Use.

"What are Zener cards and How do we use them?"

Background: In my 15 years or so of practice and study I've never heard of Zener cards until I received some in a magazine subscription.  I asked around and no one seem to have a clue either so I did the research..  I read the magazines, looked online and well I thought I'd post my findings for other people.  So first off.. If anyone in the UK and has been collecting the Enhancing Your Mind Body Spirit magazines by DeAgostini they may have come across Zener cards OR if you've been watching my unboxings of the monthly magazine subscription I post on my YouTube @ https://www.youtube.com/c/imogenakamissimoinsane you'll have seen I now have the full deck.

So.. What are they?

- A basic deck consists of 25 cards with identical backs (much like playing cards, tarot, oracle etc).  The 25 card deck includes 5x 5 different shapes (usually square, triangle, cross, wave and circle) and these cards are also 5x 5 colours (one shape per colour).

What are they for?

- Zener cards are used to test and improve your psychic intuition, abilities and enhance your ESP (Extrasensory Perception also known as Extrasensory Perception and Telepathy).

How are they used?

- Do whatever it is you do to connect with cards or other divination tools such as tarot and oracle cards.  This may range and include (but not exclusive to) smudging, sleeping with the cards under your pillow for 7 nights, studying the cards, asking for guidance from Deities, Spirits, Angels or other beings and/or energies etc..  Or whatever it is you do to connect.

- Before the session you may wish to shuffle the cards face down much like you would do with any other unmarked cards.

- Move on to meditating, cleansing, special dress robe, ritual, lighting candles, asking for guide help and/or casting circles, or any other techniques used or tools to get you in that psychic zone ready for divination.  (Always use protection when evoking spirits and other beings).

- Once ready turn the deck over.  Really focus on each card one at a time. Some people like to trace the outline of the shape with their index finger of their dominant hand while repeating (silently or out loud) the shape, or the colour and shape of that card over and over to really familiarise yourself with each unmarked card.

- Once you have done this with each card turn them back away from you and again shuffle the deck while thinking about the cards as you shuffle.  Alongside this you may wish to repeat the colours and shapes, any chants, prayer or anything you deem helpful to aid your connection.

- Once you feel ready you may stop shuffling the cards.  And draw one card (still with the back of the card facing you).  Beginners can focus on just the card shape to start with "guessing" that shape that's on the card - ok ok psychologically linking with the card to predict the shape. Repeat this process of drawing and predicting card after card.  (Optional write down your predictions and why you think that and then underneath the outcome and any thoughts you may have!) Building up that psychic intuition over time you can then move on to colour, mixing it up with colour or shape or indeed more advanced predicting both colour and shape.

Why would you use them?

- Now I could be wrong but seemingly the only real function, and don't get me wrong because it is a huge and awesome function, is to enhance your ESP abilities as mentioned earlier.

Food for thought:

Note. This can also be done with spirit working and connecting with them for them to aid you in your predictions.  - Always use protection!

Note. Making a Zener deck yourself would be very easy to do.  25 identical pieces of card, 5 different coloured pens and draw the 5 shapes; one with each pen.

Note. Like any divination this takes time and practice to build up the skill.  Not all divinations are for everyone.  While some people may excel in Zener they may lack at dowsing or tarot or runs or scrying etc.. Also equally it could be vice versa for any divination..

What is the meaning of Divination?

- The practice of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by supernatural means (Google Dictionary).

* WW: Sea Glass - Properties & Uses (IMO)

"What are the magickal properties and uses of Sea Glass?"

So thought I would post this 'In My Opinion' response out there..  These are some of the uses I've used sea glass for and/or seen others use it for - I'm sure there are loads of other uses (feel free to comment with your uses and/or sea glass finds I truly would love to see them!!)

So first off let me say that I just love to find it..  And go beach combing!!  I live in Blackpool England which is surrounded by beaches but I've only ever found sea glass at Fleetwood (on a good day maybe 10 pieces?) - I found a sea glass marble which I have displayed on my altar..  I have some tiny pieces which are on my altar in bottles but mostly I collect it to use in jewellery making..!

That said..  I've seen people use them for / I've used them for a whole number of things.. Here's some examples:

*To use for water / sea properties - as real sea glass, which has been smoothed fully, has had a long sea life and ultimately a long exposure to the salty sea water!..

*Sea witches of course find them useful.  Or water witches.

*Ones found with holes in have similar properties to Hag stones or wishing stones especially with a sea or water element properties.

*They can be used as water representation on an altar or in the home.

*Mermaid representation or offerings.

*They can represent fire and water because of the fired glass properties too..

*Other ideas are to engraved with runes or other symbols to create a set of runes, as talismans, charms etc..  Also used in jewellery or to make pendulums for dowsing and other divination.

*The Goddess / The moon has a direct connection to water and the Earth's water so of course sea glass can also be used as offerings or workings or representations.

*As mentioned because of their sea life in salt water they have cleansing, healing, purifying, protection etc properties for use in ritual, spells and other magickal uses.

*Very handy for closet witches as most mundanes would happily have pretty coloured glass pebbles on display, in a vase, in a bathroom, used in artwork, around candles and for other home decor..

*Some people use them for luck especially rarer colours..  Sea glass for most is quite difficult to find and quite expensive to buy online it seems.

Anyways this is just some ideas.  You could also Google "sea glass Magickal properties" and see what others suggest!!  As said I'd love your comments below!!
